Help to support The Avon Centre
THE AVON CENTRE
The Avon Centre is an equine and nature based activities charity on the outskirts of Bristol, opposite Blaise Castle.
Formerly known as The Avon Centre for the Disabled, The Avon Centre is working to expand its charitable objectives to include disadvantage as well as disability, and we hope this will help us to reach even more people than before.
Latest Covid-19 Guidence
Although the official restrictions have all been lifted, we are aware that some of the people who come to the Centre have health conditions that would be severely impacted if they caught Covid, so we’d like to ask everyone to carry on being sensible and sensitive to peoples’ needs:
If you feel unwell and think it might be Covid or you have tested positive for Covid, please don’t come to the Centre until you are better.
If a member of your household has tested positive, but you haven’t, it’s fine to come but please ask them to wear a mask in the car and wait for you outside rather than coming in, if that’s possible.
This advice will be reviewed in the autumn when it’s known if the number of infections is rising again.

What we offer:
The Avon RDA Group is still a pivotal part of what the Centre does, offering riding and horse related therapy to people in and around Bristol as it has for over 40 years. The RDA Group not only offers the opportunity to meet new people, learn a skill and increase fitness, but riders have the opportunity to compete in Regional and National Competitions and can be a springboard to competing at higher levels.
Beyond the Gait is The Centre’s newest programme, and is a completely client focused equine assisted learning activity where people have the opportunity to work with our wonderful Shetland ponies.
The Avon Centre works closely with Back2Basics Forest School. Most recently they have collaborated on their highly successful summer programme Ponies, Picnics and Forests, which offered outdoor activities to SEND children and their families over the summer holidays.
Bristol Horse Riding is the Centre’s commercial riding school, originally formed to help financially support the Centre’s RDA group, as the Avon Centre develops Bristol Horse Riding will be helping us to achieve our goal of supporting disadvantaged people receive the physical and emotional benefits of spending time with horses.
Here at The Avon Centre we have excellent facilities from a large indoor arena, outdoor arena or our hacking track and 100 acres of field, you are bound to find us a great venue to run your event, or just get your horse out and about to a different location.
The Avon Centre is pleased to be working with Jo McMeechan to deliver innovative hippotherapy to children with additional needs.
