More Info on BHS Challenge Awards

Sammy will be running stable management sessions covering all topics of the BHS Challenge awards -About the horse. All of the topics will teach you how to practise to industry standard and are recognised within the equine sector.


CHALLENGE AWARDS- If you're looking for a strong bond with a healthy, happy horse, the Challenge Awards are perfect for you. You can learn how to care for horses, develop hands-on, practical skills and get stuck in with the day-to-day tasks. EXPLORER AWARDS- Aimed at teenagers and young adults, these awards help to develop your confidence, skills and knowledge in a fun, supportive environment. You will be building your horsey know-how whilst having opportunities to build skills for life such as planning, teamwork and problem solving. It doesn’t matter what previous experience you have with horses, or if you’re a complete beginner. All you need is enthusiasm and a love for horses! But most importantly, you’ll have fun along the way! Remember, there are no time limits, or constraints to complete an award so you can work at a pace to suit you to achieve your goals.


These are divided into 4 topics:

  1. Knowing your horse

  2. Handling your horse

  3. Caring for your horse

  4. Lunging your horse

Each topic in awarded a certificate on completion and progression onto the next level. (bronze-silver-gold-platinum) Silver level is BHS Stage 1 equivalent and can be used as direct entry to stage 2 care and lunge assessment if this was desired in the future.

Each Award runs over a 6-week course progressing through the awards. Do not worry if you have missed out this time; the awards will repeat consecutively! Chances to move up the levels on completion as we expand our courses! The course of 6 lessons is £75 and it includes your booklet and certificate on completion.
